sketchbook magic

Here is a selection of drawings from my new Michael Roger Press sketchbook. When I was younger, I had a million MRP journals and filled them with drawings, clippings, and all kinds of teenage fashion fun. I found clips from old issues of delias, seventeen, and the late & wondrous moxiegirl. My books had millions of whimsical cover designs. My faves included a holographic cherries and lemons book, one with blue and silver candystripes, and a crushed velvety star comet book.

Recently I bumped into the owner, and now I'm back where I started, toting around a new MRP book and filling it with drawings, writing, poetry, and magic!

cut out love and frozen teddies

rob ryan, can we shall we

I finally made it to see
Slash: Paper Under the Knife at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) right before the show was taken down this Sunday. I'd been meaning to go for months, and luckily I made it just in the nick of time! My favorite piece was the first thing I saw--a lasercut masterpiece by artist, Rob Ryan, called, can we shall we.

su blackwell, rapunzel

su blackwell, wildflowers

su blackwell, while you were sleeping ii

Su Blackwell's book dioramas were equally captivating to me. Her fantasy scenes are spooky and romantic cut outs weaving together magic, words, and paper.

matt campbell, droopy black bear

I ended the night with at stop at gallery hanahou to check out the Matt Campbell opening for Out of the Black. Stuffed teddies, bunnies, and doggies dipped and frozen in black tar speak of those childhood lost loved ones and frozen dreams. They were sweet and tragic all at once.

my zest books submission, ooh lala makeup!

Here are some pieces I revamped and colored in for a illustration submission for a teen makeup book that Zest Books is publishing.

Zest specializes in non-fiction books for teenage girls. Their books help empower little darlings and keep them informed about all of the nitty gritty that comes with teen life.

Here's to makeup! Wish me luck!
